Welcome to Dublin, Ireland’s vibrant capital city! Dublin is one of Europe’s oldest cities so there are plenty of historical monuments and buildings to visit. Dublin also offers the best in restaurants, cafés, shopping and nightlife. Dublin or Baile Atha Cliath in Gaelic, is ranked as one of the fastest growing cities in Europe and it is a modern centre in Ireland for education, the arts, administrative function, economy and industry. Dublin is a youthful city with approximately half the population being younger than 25! Music lovers have plenty of choice in Dublin with gigs and concerts every night of the week. Live music is also played on the streets of Dublin and the city had produced several musicians and groups of international success including U2, Thin Lizzy, Sinead O’Connor and The Script. The River Liffey divides the city into the Northside and the Southside. Dublin has 3 universities and many other higher education institutes. Ireland’s capital city will be the European Capital of Science in 2012. Dublin’s population currently stands at over 1.5 million and it is expected to reach 2.1 million by 2021.
10% of Ireland’s population is now made up of foreign nationals and Dublin is home to a greater proportion of new arrivals than any other part of the country giving the city a multi-cultural vibe to rival any major global city.Dublin city is well serviced by public transport including Dublin Bus, the Luas tramway and the DART train lines. Dublin enjoys a temperate climate with mild winters, cool summers and a lack of temperature extremes with moderate rainfall. Dublin does not experience as high rainfall as the West of Ireland, which receives over twice that of the capital city!
